Questions

Frequently asked questions

How does Taste Quest work?

Pick a location and a search radius. Taste Quest pulls every restaurant in that area from OpenStreetMap, lets you mark which ones you’ve tried and rate them, and includes a smart random picker for when you can’t decide where to eat tonight.

Is Taste Quest free?

Yes — building lists, tracking visits, rating restaurants, and the random picker are all free to use. A premium tier with extra features for power users is in development.

How is Taste Quest different from Yelp or Google Maps?

Taste Quest is a personal restaurant journal and decision aid, not a public review platform. Lists are yours, ratings are yours, and the random picker exists to solve a specific problem: deciding where to eat when you can’t make up your mind.

Where do the restaurant listings come from?

Taste Quest uses OpenStreetMap (OSM), the open community-maintained map of the world. Every restaurant in your radius is pulled in automatically — no manual data entry required from you.

Does Taste Quest work outside the United States?

Yes. Anywhere OpenStreetMap has restaurant data — which covers most populated areas worldwide — Taste Quest works.

Do I need to download an app?

No. Taste Quest works in any modern browser at tastequest.app. Native iOS and Android apps are in development for an even smoother mobile experience.
